Dancers from various parts of India are coming together at the Huygens Festival for the first time to bring you mesmerizing dance performances from India.
Incredible India - The Cultural Journey! will include performances from the following groups.
Zangam is a special choir, as there is no choir in the Netherlands with a repertoire of songs from all over India, from Rajasthan to Tamil Nadu. Under the guidance of Samhita Mundkur, Zangam presents a repertoire of different folk songs from India
The Laya School of Dance & Arts is a renowned school for Indian classical Dance bharathanatyam and Carnatic music based in Leidschendam-Voorburg. It is founded by Vaijeyanthi Panchapagesan.
Navrang is a dance group that shows the essence of different Indian folk dances. It will perform Lavani at the Hugens festival. Lavani is a centuries-old dynamic folk dance. The rhythm played on a typical ´dholki´ (percussion instrument) is characteristic for this dance style. In the state of Maharashtra in India no entertainment is complete without a Lavani performance.
Kallol is the Indian Bengali Cultural Association of the Netherlands. Kallol will present a dance performance in combination with Tagore singing. This is named after Rabindranath Tagore who was a Bengali poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter.
Amsterdam Bhangra established in 2020 has the mission to spread the joy of Bhangra and Giddha. The team of Amsterdam Bhangra has performed at prestigious stages, won a talent competition, invited international dancers for workshops, performed at a show of a famous singer and conducted various workshops making thousands of people groove to Punjabi beats.
