Where is home? Is it where we were born? What if we can never return there? Is it in our memories? Is it where we choose to live? Bella Adamova explores these questions together with pianist Michael Gees in a very personal programme where European art song is intertwined with improvisations. It is an invitation into the artists’ inner world, where every word is filled with deep meaning. “My true home, a place where I am most myself is in my songs – in my improvisations.”

A voice that apparently can do anything” — mezzo and improviser BELLA ADAMOVA grew up in Prague torn between, and surrounded by many cultures. She moves between different musical periods, genres and cultures with natural ease.

Michael Gees

MICHAEL GEES wins Steinway competition in 1961 and subsequently studies music in Salzburg, Wien and Detmold. At the age of fifteen Michael Gees flees the predetermined competitional career, leaves school, conservatory and home behind, supports himself by working as archeological assistant and, in the process, becomes a sailor.
